Interview with Middle Level Teacher

Interview with Mrs. K
The following will be a collection of questions and answers from my interview with an active teacher in a catholic middle school. First will be the question which will subsequently be followed by an answer.

  1. What is a social force or issue you feel is having a negative impact on secondary schooling?
    1. Social media causes an issue in social settings. It adds more pressure and creates more drama.
  2. How do you work collaboratively with other teachers?
    1. When there are time crunches the teachers will pull together to make sure all of their work gets done. Some courses will also teach with each other to improve time management and efficiency.
  3. What is your philosophy of education? How does that influence you in the classroom?
    1. A mix of old and new. Students need to be in a safe environment and make sure you invest in a relationship with the students.
  4. What is the most difficult part about teaching new students?
    1. Influencing procedures and routines. It takes weeks to implement new rules.
  5. How did you create a curriculum and what adjustments were made along the way?
    1. I use Engage NY that sets up lesson plans and books meeting both national and PA standards. I incorporate online resources for the gaps as well as utilize grammar textbooks. If something goes wrong for the first class then i adjust for the second class accordingly.
  6. What advice would you give to a first year teacher?
    1. Their is a big learning curve in the beginning but stay strong and don't ignore parents. Work with everyone and ask for help. Be open to advice and have a specific routine setup for when students walk into the room. And work with the people in your grade team.
